Phill Brigstock: Dino Days

When Phill Brigstock got in touch with us, we were immediately fascinated by his unique project. Phill was writing a book, Dino Days, about the realities of classic car ownership – with his beloved Ferrari Dino at the heart of the project. Telling the exploits of Phill and his family over the past 50 years, the book tells of their ownership of 200 classic cars between them and Phill’s scenic road trip to Maranello in Italy, the home of Ferrari.

Throughout the book Phill brings to life his journey to Italy and the life of Dino Ferrari (Enzo Ferrari’s first-born son), all whilst featuring 312 beautifully captured photos going back to the 1970s.

This vibrant, visual and captivating book is also in support of Sporting Bears, a charity which has raised over £2.3 million for children’s causes by giving the public ‘dream rides’ in interesting cars.  Phill explained: “I am an active member of Sporting Bears and I wanted to do something further to raise funds for the very worthy cause. That’s why Dino Days has been printed and published with profits going to the charity.”

Working with Printondemand-worldwide, Phill used our BookPUBLISHER service to bring Dino Days to fruition:

“Printondemand-worldwide’s ability to print quality colour was essential for this project. As you can imagine, the book’s photographs are incredibly important – so it was vital they were printed to an exceptional quality. Along with that, the BookPUBLISHER service meant I benefitted from the design expertise at Printondemand-worldwide to bring the project onto pages.

“My project was quite unusual in a lot of senses – I am the author of Dino Days, but I didn’t come to Printondemand-worldwide with a finished book, ready for print. I needed guidance on the layout and design of the book; Printondemand-worldwide was able to provide that service and the design team really knew their stuff, which made the world of difference when putting the final pages together,” explained Phill.

Phill opted to have an initial print run of 50 collector editions, and then continue to print copies on-demand. Explaining why this was the right option for him, Phill said: “The set up at Printondemand-worldwide meant I was able to print an initial 50 – sharing them with people who helped with the project and also with potential reviewers, to help widen the reach of the book. From there, as a book is ordered online it is printed on-demand. That means I don’t need to hold a lot of stock or manage quantities – it’s a very straightforward solution.

“Printondemand-worldwide also listed the book on their e-commerce platform, The Great British Bookshop – providing me with a place to direct people to buy the book, which also didn’t take a cut of the profits away from the charitable donation to Sporting Bears.”

Andy Cork, managing director at Printondemand-worldwide, added: “It has been a pleasure to work on this project with Phill. Not only is the topic fascinating – and the book a really good read – it’s been great to show our support for the Sporting Bears charity too.”
