E-Book Sales at 3% in the French Market

E-book sales continue to grow in France, but very slowly.

The latest report from the Syndicat National de L’Edition [SNE] says that the e-book market share in France rose from 1% in 2011 to 3% in 2012.  The report also notes that the market research company GfK believes that 15 million smartphones will be in use in France by the end of this year, along with five million tablets and half a million e-readers.  If the last of these predictions are correct, it’s possible that France will not experience the mania for e-readers that has successively gripped the US and the UK.  But then, as we all know, there are lies, damned lies and statistics.  Despite this apparent drawback, the SNE report is very optimistic about the future of e-books in France and foresees a rapidly increasing market share for e-formats in the next few years.
