Paperback books
Our paperback (perfect-bound) books are ideal for novels and journals. They are library quality, bound with strong glue and have a creased cover and straight spine
Hardback with printed paper case
A premium product that turns heads and says 'quality'. This style has the design laminated onto the hard cover cover.
Hardback with Wibalin Cloth Cover
Welcome to the de-luxe end of the book market. Wibalin is a strong, durable covering material that allows you fantastic opportunities for creative design using our foil blocking services (please note that the larger the artwork the more expensive this service would be). We offer a range of colours and textures, inluding faux leather and cloth. If you would like a non standard wibalin which is not specified on our website then please get in touch for more options.
Wire-o bound with colour cover
Ideal for books which need to lay flat when open, such as cook books, diaries or musical scores.
Saddle stitch with colour cover
Ideal for booklets of up to 48 pages, secured by staples rather than glued binding. Available in all of our papers and either colour or black-and-white
Spiral bound with colour cover
Ideal for documents where opening back on themselves or laying flat on a desk or table is desirable, ideal for publications such as work-books, journals, and guidebooks

Gloss lamination
A glossy transparent plastic coating which adds strength and durability to our covers while enhancing vibrant colours.
Matt lamination
A classy, matt transparent plastic coating which adds strength and durability to our covers; better suited to pastel and paler colour covers.
No lamination
Not to be recommended, as without the protection of the plastic coating, colours may rub off along the folds and edges.
Dust cover jacket
A loose outer cover, usually around a hardback book, which protects the book. Because there are flaps, which tuck around the casing, more text and/or pictures can be shown and the flaps can be used as bookmarks.

A hardback book, especially a PPC hardback, can look equally attractive without a dustjacket
No foil blocking
Foil blocking is not essential if you have a dustjacket to carry the book's title, but without a dustjacket the book would need to be opened to find out what it was

Recommended for books that mainly contain black and white photos
Low ink coverage 2 colour printing
Recommended for books that use only 2 colours of the 4 standard digital print colours and have less than 30 % ink coverage overall

The pocket guide has a finished size of 105mm x 74mm. Ideal for small pocket books
Novel size
The novel has a finished size of 203mm x 127mm. Cheaper option for colour printing than standard Demy size.
Demy size
The demy has a finished size of 216mm x 138mm.
US Royal size
The US Royal has a finished of size 229mm x 152mm. Cheaper option for colour printing than standard Royal size.
Royal size
The Royal has a finished size of 234mm x 156mm.
A5 size
A5 books have a finished size of 210mm x 148mm.
A4 size
A4 paperbacks have a finished size of 297mm x 210mm. A4 hardback books have a page size of 290mm x 207mm.
210mm square size
210mm square finished size 210mm x 210mm.
Custom size
Please enter your custom size. This option is more expensive than choosing another of our standard sizes.
Portrait orientation
This means the book is taller than it is wide. This option is cheaper than a landscape book.
Landscape orientation
This means the book is wider than it is tall. This option is more expensive than a portrait book.
Proofing choices
We offer multiple ways for you to receive your proofs. Please select an option to find out more
Digital PDF proof
We will e-mail you a copy of how your book is likely to appear; this is not recommended for colour.
Loose leaf proof
As you want to know how your book will look and feel, we will send you a copy produced on the same machinery and using the same stock(s) of paper/card. The pages will not be glued in place and the cover will not be laminated, though.
Bound proof
As you want to know how your book will look and feel, we will send you a copy produced on the same machinery and using the same stock(s) of paper/card, this will be a fully finished copy as the pages will be glued in place but the cover isn't normally laminated.
No proof
Not advisable. A proof is your way of finding out whether the files print as you expect them to do.
Supplying a PDF file
We print from nothing but .pdf files. Please save yours to the standard PDF/X-1a:2001 ensuring that all fonts are embedded.
Hardcopy Scanning
Hardcopy scanning services include cover scanning and 3 processes and costs depending on the original content that needs scanning.

Black and White Text Only Scanning
We offer a service to scan the black and white text supplied and then convert to PDF. The scanning services are extra and therefore will incur extra charges, therefore PDF files are recommended.
Mono Text and Image Scanning
B+W text & image scanning required - We offer a service to scan the black and white text and halftone images supplied and then convert to PDF. There's no limit to the number of pages that can be scanned but grayscale images are charged at £1 per page.
Full Colour Scanning Service
Colour scanning required - We offer a service to scan the full colour text and images supplied and then convert to PDF. The scanning services are extra and therefore will incur extra charges, therefore PDF files are recommended.
Barcode Generation
If your book is intended for sale rather than personal use, an ISBN (International Standard book Number) is thoroughly recommended. ISBNs are available in the UK (in batches of 10 or more) from Nielsen Bookdata but it is well worth considering our publishing options (www.fast-print.net) before purchasing a batch. If you have your own ISBN, we can generate a barcode for the back cover of your book using that number.
Word to PDF Conversion
The only files we use for printing are .pdf format. If you are unable to supply your material in files that are X-1a:2001 compliant with embedded fonts, let us do it for you from Microsoft Word.
Legal Despatch Service (UK)
It is a legal requirement for six copies of every printed book to be sent to deposit libraries around the UK. We can save you the effort by sending six of the copies from your order to the relevant addresses.

If you simply want your book title and author's name on a plain background, we can achieve that in any style of lettering on any background colour (excluding metallic colours).
Non-Scuff Velvet Lamination
Covers with solid deep colours (for example but not limited to black, purple) have a tendency to accentuate minor scuffs and scratches on laminated covers, for the best results we recommend using a non-scuff velvet laminate.
