Printondemand-worldwide and the environment
We believe that digital printing is the future for environmentally conscious book manufacture, direct marketing and label printing. We understand that it is essential that our environmental impact needs to be reduced and a detailed explanation of how we are endeavouring to achieve can be downloaded here:

Eco Book
Although Printondemand-worldwide has a carbon offsetting policy in place (based on annual paper usage and operational factors), the Eco Book model allows our customers to choose to directly offset the carbon associated with their job by contributing, what is usually a very small sum, to the planting of additional trees.
Every customer that subscribes to the Eco Book model receives an electronic certificate confirming the amount of carbon that was offset on their behalf and the fee is added to the job’s invoice.
To subscribe to this printing model, choose the Carbon Offsetting option when getting an online quote:

The carbon footprint is estimated based on factors including book size, page count and number of copies ordered.
Key points: ISO 14001:2004

Our environmental management system is certified to ISO 14001, meaning we have established our environmental policy objectives and implememted the processes required to meet these objectives.
This certification has been achieved by less than 1% of UK businesses and reflects the standard of evaluation of our working pratices in the context of environmental management.
Key points: FSC and PEFC Chain of Custody

Only 7% of the world's forests are certified by groups who monitor illegal logging and ecological impact. The FSC is the most well known organisation covering 25% of all certified forests
Being awarded FSC and PEFC Chain of Custody (CoC) accreditation means that we can offer our customers assurance with regards to the environmental impact of the paper products used in our printing processes.
A third party examines our ability to ensure compliance with the strict PEFC and FSC CoC requirements, including stringent record keeping, correct labelling procedures and staff training.

In January 2008 we moved into our newly built BREEAM premises. The core aim of BREEAM is to reduce the embodied and operational environmental impact of building, including but not limited to the build itself, CO2 emmissions, location of transport links, thermal comfort and water usage.

Key points: Waste and Recycling

We have several processes in place, designed to reduce unnecessary wastage, including:
- Upgraded mono press to reduce wasted paper when producing Royal size books (estimated 4 tonnes per year)
- Purchase of bulk packed, pre-cut paper (reducing off-cut wastage and packaging)
- Paper and cardboard recycling
- Plastic and metal recycling
- Organic waste capture to wormery
- Office back-to-back printing, with an aim to become a paperless office by 2010
- Envelope, jiffy bag and toner cartridge recycling
- Continual staff training
